Friday, February 5th

Our class has earned all of our marbles after much hard work! YAY! This Friday, in celebration of their accomplishments, we will be having a Pajama Party. The kiddos can wear their pajamas ALL day and can bring their favorite stuffed animal to snuggle with.

Happy February!  Our classroom window is filling up with purple hearts with “Random Acts of Kindness!”  Please continue catching your child doing something nice for someone else.

  • Word Wall Words: This week is a word wall review week.  Please check out the Word Wall Page to practice reading and spelling them!
  • Reading: Story Elements.  We are focusing on setting (where a story takes place).  While we are reading, ask us where the setting is.  Is it at a character’s house?  It is outdoors?  Remember, we are still working on stating the characters’ names, not just the pronouns.
  • Math: We just finished our unit assessment. We have now begun working on identifying 2D shapes.  We even learned a new word: vertices!
  • Science: This week we will be studying the moon!  We will read books, draw pictures, and discuss the different phases of the moon.
  • Writing: We are working on adding details between our transition sentences!
  • Art: We worked on overlapping with our calendars!

The class list for Valentine cards came home on Monday, as well as the new At-Home Learning Calendar!

Enjoy your week!

This week we are learning about:

  • Adjectives, Nouns, Verbs and Prepositional Phrases.  We are writing poems using special words.
  • In the At Home Learning, a time worksheet came home.  We are learning how to tell time on the hour (o’ clock or :00) and half hour (half past _ o’clock or :30).  Ask us some time and we can show them to you on a clock!
  • Writing:  We are working on using transition words: First, Next, Then, Last… for example.  Ask us to tell you a story (or write a story) using these words!  What is a topic sentence?  We know!  We also wrote letters to Santa… hopefully we will hear back from him or a helper soon!

Also happening on Friday, Dec. 18th:

  • What:  A celebration of light around the world.  Cherry Valley Band and Choir performance with all school participation and audience sing-a-long.
